So writing a weekly post has motivated me to do something interesting every week, which is perfect because I am an extremely introverted person who would rather stay at home all day than brave the outside world. Ok, maybe not to that extreme. I will gladly go on a hike with family or friends, but don’t you dare make me talk to strangers. Haven’t you ever heard of stranger danger??

So anyway, I didn’t really think this week would be all that interesting, just the usual school work and daily routine, but it has turned out to be quite the week. On Monday afternoon the Currituck SPCA had a fire that started in the dryer in the laundry room and they are now working to clean everything up. They have to use chemicals to get everything back in order, so they need to foster out their animals. Most of their dogs need to be in homes that don’t already have dogs and the same goes for the cats, so we didn’t think we would be able to help foster any animals. Instead we bought some baby wipes to clean up the kittens and some cleaning wipes to take down and donate along with some fresh towels since they aren’t able to wash theirs.

While we were down there we overheard someone talking about one of the dogs looking pitiful, so we called them when we got back home and asked if there were any dogs that got along with other dogs that needed to be fostered. It turned out there was a 1 year-old black lab whose brother went to a foster home and he was feeling a bit lonely. He looked to his brother for guidance. They said he would really benefit from being in a home where he can get the love he needs, so of course we said we would foster him. His name is Hunter (what a coincidence) and he is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met!

Version 2

Hunter was taken to the SPCA after being left as a completely outside dog and he was beaten by his owners. He is very shy and cautious, especially towards men, but once he gets used to you he will snuggle right on up to you. I can’t even imagine why anyone would treat him so poorly. On the bright side, he is now in a safe and loving home, even if it’s only for a few days. Plus, Rory has been having a blast playing with Hunter. They chase each other all over the yard and the house!

We are only able to foster him until Monday since we have our hands full with Rory and all our other animals, but the Currituck SPCA is a no-kill shelter and I have no doubt that he will get adopted in no time! I mean, how could anyone resist such a sweet dog??

So there’s our little adventure for the week! Maybe we are becoming those crazy vegans everyone warns you about, driving all over the place to help save some animals. But really, what’s wrong with that? Absolutely nothing.

If you would like to help the shelter out, you can donate to the SPCA here.
